Training Opportunities

The following courses are all free of charge to attendees and are available through Police Standards and Training.

1. Cyber Crime Fundamentals, an online course.

In-service training is available on the web through PSTC’s web-based portal. You may access the site by following the LOGIN link through PSTC’s main website at www.pstc.nh.gov, or directly at www.inservice.pstc.nh.gov/moodle. If you don’t already have an account, you will need to create one by following the instructions associated with the CREATE A NEW ACCOUNT link on the main page. With your account you will be able to access Articulable Suspicion, the Training Calendar, class updates, forms, manuals and online classes. Classes require an enrollment key at first access, which should be obtainable through your department’s training officer. (If your agency’s training officer does not have a current list of keys, they can obtain them by contacting Captain Benjamin R. Jean, at 271-8278, or by email at bjean@pstc.state.nh.us). You must be a New Hampshire Law Enforcement Officer to use the site, unless special written permission has been authorized by the Director.

2. Introduction to Computer Crime – Online Resources for Investigators.

This is the second class for N.H. law enforcement officials in building the skills to investigate cyber crimes. Building on the skills learned in the online course, students will learn about computers, the Internet, and how they are exploited by criminals. Topics include: Internet Protocol Concepts, Internet Tracing, Website Tracing, and how to develop additional investigative leads from existing case data and Internet sources. The class is focused on hands-on learning, where the students practice and are tested, on the knowledge and skills introduced by the instructors. Prerequisite: Cyber Crime Fundamentals. 3. Identity Theft.

A three-day course designed to introduce officers to the basics of identity theft investigation including: who is targeted as a victim, what technology is used and how information is gathered. The class will also include a discussion of current case laws on identity theft, as well as the use of technology in committing and combating this crime. DATE(S): NOVEMBER 28 – 30, 2006

4. Remote Case Reviewer System Training

This class is for officers and investigators who intend to access their digital evidence cases that reside at the State Police Forensic Lab. The class provides instruction on how to connect with the State Police Network and utilize the forensic viewing software that resides on that system. Prerequisite: Cyber Crime Fundamentals.
